چکیده

The DtN finite element method for solving the exterior Helmholtz problem is mathematically analyzed. The reduced problem with DtN artificial boundary condition is shown to be equivalent to the original exterior problem. Error estimates for solutions obtained by the DtN finite element method are established.

An explicit Wave Based - Finite element model as alterna- tive to the DtN finite element method

The solution of unbounded Helmholtz problems is the subject of substantial research. If these problems are to be solved using a domain-based discretisation technique like the finite element method (FEM), the computational domain has to be truncated to a bounded region. The unbounded nature of the problem exterior to this truncation is simulated by an appropriate condition on the truncation. A c...

An Artificial Boundary Condition for the Numerical Computation of Scattering Waves

We consider the controllability method, which is proposed by Bristeau-GlowinskiPériaux [BGP98], for computing numerical solutions of the exterior problem for the Helmholtz equation. In the controllability method, we need to introduce an artificial boundary in order to reduce the computational domain to a bounded domain, and need to solve, in the bounded computational domain, the wave equation a...

Application of Decoupled Scaled Boundary Finite Element Method to Solve Eigenvalue Helmholtz Problems (Research Note)

A novel element with arbitrary domain shape by using decoupled scaled boundary finite element (DSBFEM) is proposed for eigenvalue analysis of 2D vibrating rods with different boundary conditions. Within the proposed element scheme, the mode shapes of vibrating rods with variable boundary conditions are modelled and results are plotted. All possible conditions for the rods ends are incorporated ...

Error analysis of the DtN-FEM for the scattering problem in acoustics via Fourier analysis

In this paper, we are concerned with the error analysis for the finite element solution of the two-dimensional exterior Neumann boundary value problem in acoustics. In particular, we establish an explicit priori error estimates in H and Lnorms including both the effect of the truncation of the DtN mapping and that of the numerical discretization. To apply the finite element method (FEM) to the ...

Numerische Mathematik Manuscript-nr. a Finite-element Capacitance Matrix Method for Exterior Helmholtz Problems

We introduce an algorithm for the eecient numerical solution of exterior boundary value problems for the Helmholtz equation. The problem is reformulated as an equivalent one on a bounded domain using an exact non-local boundary condition on a circular artiicial boundary. An FFT-based fast Helmholtz solver is then derived for a nite-element discretization on an annular domain. The exterior probl...
